President of the Board

The President leads and inspires the Officers, Board, Staff and Membership. They possess a keen interest in community arts and the arts in general. The President shares their passion for the arts and performs the following duties:
Supports the successful execution of the Destination: Art Mission, including oversight of all planning and execution of the outreach programs, education activities, exhibitions and events required to fulfill the Mission
Runs the monthly board meetings
Directs the Treasurer to provide financial data to the board for decision making and oversees the annual budget
Ensures legal compliance
Helps recruit, train and evaluate staff

This volunteer position does not include a salary but provides value and satisfaction in leading our prestigious art organization. This includes a dedicated staff, the joy of working with a talented art community, a collaborative and energetic Board of Directors, and the gratitude of its membership.
Requirements:
Ability and desire to collaborate with and influence diverse groups in and outside of our organization
Demonstrated proficiency in verbal and written communication skills
Management and non-profit organization experience preferred
Board structure and Advisory Committees
Advisory Committee opportunities are listed below. These Committees help Destination: Art function smoothly and efficiently, with groups of smart people who know a lot about a topic area and/or are interested in getting involved to make a difference. There is at least one Board member on each Committee. By volunteering for an Advisory Committee, you will be contributing to Destination: Art’s future in a major way!

EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE
President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer
Assists the President as needed with the day-to-day running of Destination: Art
Advises and supports Board Oversight and Advisory Committees
Enlists a Strategic Planning Committee as needed to assess present structures, program directions, outreach activities and future possibilities
Board and Committee Oversight
Maintains By-Laws
Supports, with the President, the successful execution of the Destination: Art Mission as regards all programs, activities, exhibitions, classes, outreach, etc
Receives reports from Advisory Committees, summarizes them for total Board consumption and ensures Committees’ progress
Helps recruit Board members and supports Board member responsibilities
Legal
Oversees and advises the President on the execution of deeds, mortgages, bonds, contracts, checks, or other instruments which may from time to time be authorized by the board of directors
Ensures legal compliance
Oversees insurance, including liability and DNO (Directors and Officers Liability Insurance)
Obtains signature of the President as needed
Fundraising
Helps ensure that methods and means are established to fund the annual budget and accomplish full funding
Helps maintain relationships with donors
Envisions, develops and maintains Sponsorship levels for fundraising events (i.e., “Tea Parties for Donors and Recruitment,” etc)
Plans small fundraising events
Grant writing
Works closely with the Fundraising Committee especially in the area of grants
Helps maintain information and processes for available art grants
Organizes grant writing
Prepares grant documents for review by Fundraising & Executive Committees
Helps organize and follow up with grant proposals
Programs and Events
Oversees plans for ongoing community outreach programs, educational programs, special events, etc
Artist Membership and Gallery Management
Currently, the Vice President is responsible for recruiting Associate Members, Gallery and Studio Artists, with the staff; arranging for jurying, curating, hanging of exhibitions and ensuring that artists are in brand compliance
Recruits for studio rentals for 100% capacity
Ability and desire to collaborate with and influence diverse groups in our organization
Volunteers/everyone helps recruit associate artists
Prepares all aspects of Exhibitions
Helps foster communication among all levels of membership
Marketing/community relations
Attends South Bay community and municipal events to ensure the Mission, offerings and accomplishments are current and supported by inviting local leaders to Destination: Art events, exhibition and Outreach opportunities
Hospitality and Customer Experience
The Volunteer Coordinator will help Volunteers support all aspects of customer experience, including receptions and facility maintenance, gallery sitting, docent opportunities and hosting classes and workshops
A Sunshine Volunteer from this committee reports news to the Board membership such as medical issues, death of a loved one, etc
FACILITIES
Maintains cleaning and organizing of facilities and equipment
Recommends and sources tech and capital projects
On-call for facility emergencies and contacts the landlord
Destination: Art is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization, and community hub for art serving South Bay LA. We opened our doors in 2014, with the unique combination of artists’ studios and a gallery. We average 40 classes and workshops per year with renowned local and international instructors. Three community outreach programs offer art experiences to the public: FRIENDS of Destination: Art in partnership with the Autism Society of LA; Creative Conversations with key opinion leaders on creativity in business and careers; and Art 4 Everyone for those who think they are not artistic.
